Frugal Greeting Cards – Create a Greeting Card Budget

Add up how many cards you know you will purchase throughout the year, then decide how much you are willing to spend per card. Work the amount you come up with into your monthly budget.

Purchasing greeting cards as they are needed may not be the most frugal option, though if your budget does not allow, it may be your only option. Instead of buying cards as the occasion arises, purchase many cards at one time. I purchase most of my greeting cards at dollar stores and often find them for 2 for a dollar. I buy as many cards as I can. I make sure to buy the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards I will need, the birthday cards, and the anniversary cards.

I also purchase some extra birthday cards and some generic cards that could be used as thank you cards, graduation cards, get-well cards, or any other occasion that may come up.

I keep all of these cards in a box and when I see a special occasion on my calendar I can easily fill out the needed card and send it in the mail. I am not late near as often sending greeting cards as I was before I implemented this!

If you cannot afford to purchase cards or do not have time to mail one, you may consider free e-cards as a way to save money. E-cards have come a long way and can be just as much fun as regular cards. They also take little time to send and cost nothing.

Another frugal greeting card is to create a homemade card. Use your computer, scrapbooking supplies, or just fold a piece of paper. Have your child draw a picture on the front or cut out images from magazines.
