Frugal Soup Recipes : OAMC Chicken Broth

The bouillon cubes you purchase at the store will sometimes have dairy in it which means I can’t eat it. Because of this I began making my own chicken broth and found that it tastes so much better!

Frugal Tips for Chicken Broth

Chicken broth is a great way to use up all the veggies in your fridge before they go bad. I keep a bag in the fridge and throw in the leftover scraps throughout the week. I also plan chicken broth around roasted chicken dinners so I can use the broth. Don’t forget to make different types of broth! You can make vegetable or beef broth and don’t forget to use turkey bones for turkey broth after Thanksgiving!

*All of my soup recipes can be used with dairy or made into dairy free recipe versions. I have a milk allergy while my husband does not so I often try to make recipes in which substitions can be made either way. My chicken broth is also made to be as frugal as possible.

Gather It Up!

Chicken bones from a roasted chicken, chicken wings, etc.
leftover fresh veggies

Cook It Up!

Throw everything into a pot and cover with water. Set to boil and let boil down until the rich golden broth is made. Strain broth and set aside to cool. I usually fill the pot up again with water and make another batch of broth.

Serve It Up!

Use as you would chicken broth. This also easily frozen. You can freeze them in freezer bags or plastic ware but I like to pour the broth into ice cube trays and let it freeze then pop out the cubes and throw in a freezer bag that I can grab as needed.
