Asian Beef with Mandarin Oranges

This is a great way to put a new twist on the roast we eat so often. I was pleasantly surprised to not only find this recipe but to also find how much I like it!

Frugal Tips for Asian Beef with Mandarin Oranges

I usually only buy roast if I can purchase it during a buy one get one sale. This makes the roast so much cheaper! It also makes enough for leftovers so you may be able to get two meals out of it depending on the size of your family.

*All of my dinner recipes can be used with dairy or made into dairy free recipe versions. I have a milk allergy while my husband does not so I often try to make recipes in which substitions can be made either way. My dinner recipes are also made to be as frugal as possible.

Asian Beef with Mandarin Oranges

Gather It Up!

2 tbsp oil
Beef Roast
1 sliced onion
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp ginger
1 sliced green onion
1/2 package mushrooms sliced
1 bok choy sliced
3 tbsp corn starch
1 can mandarin oranges
2 cups beef broth
6 cups rice

Cook It Up!

Brown roast in pan with oil. Place roast in slow cooker. Saute veggies for a few minutes then place in slow cooker. Whisk together the corn starch and the syrup from the can of mandarin oranges. Stir the broth in with the corn starch mixture then pour over the rest of the ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook on low for ten hours or on high for 5 to 6 hours. Steam rice separately. Just before serving add the mandarin oranges.

Serve It Up!

Serve this great mean over the rice. We also like to serve this with sugar snap peas!

  4. Asian cooking in general tends to be pretty frugal. We cook lots of Chinese and Indian food at our house. The meals taste great and really don’t cost much at all, which is great as my 3 teenagers seem to have hollow legs and eat huge portions. Thanks for sharing the recipe :)

Perhaps you could drop by my site at some point. I’ve almost finished putting together a recipe book full of our favourite frugal meals. It’s free to download.
